Report Details Climate Change Damage

A new report published by The Lancet  provides data on human deaths, the spread of infectious disease and other health effect directly due to climate change.  While the report, titled The Lancet Countdown: Tracking Progress on Health and Climate Change, claims some damage cannot be undone, it also says a comprehensive approach to tackling climate change is “the greatest global health opportunity of the 21st century”.

The global team of multi-disciplinary researchers found that “between 2000-2016, there has been a 46 percent increase in the number of weather-related disasters, and 125 million adults aged over 65 were exposed to heat waves.”

But response has picked up momentum and the opportunities right now are “unprecedented”, the report notes.
