2016 PHN Conference – a Snowy Success!

Congratulations to OPHA Public Health Nursing Section Chair Carol Howdyshell and PHN Conference Planning Chair Rosemary Ferraro on a successful and very informative annual conference, held this week in Dublin, Ohio.

Public Health Nurses listen to Robert Jennings discuss OPHA’s Health and Equity in All Policies (HEiAP) Initiative

Approximately 90 of Ohio’s PHNs attended the conference. Topics included a broad look at the future of Public Health Nursing by Shirley Orr, Executive Director of the national Association of Public Health Nursing, Kansas, and Alex Jones, OPHA member and ODH Chief Nurse. Additional topics included an update on the patient-centered medical home (PCMH) concept, HPV vaccine and cancer prevention and

Panel shares on the opiate epidemic.

Personnel and Training tips. An excellent panel shared local work toward reducing – or better still – preventing opiate misuse and deaths. Finally Terry Allan spoke on the evolution to Public Health 3.0. His talk was adapted to deal with a rapidly falling snow – so that the participants could get an earlier start on the way back home.

Many many thanks to Rosemary Ferraro and the planning committee and to Jamie Weaver for coordinating the logistics and registration for the conference.

Presentations from the conference can be found on the OPHA website at http://ohiopha.org/public-health-nursing-page/
